CHANGE OF LEADERSHIP AS PROF. CHIKE EMERGES DEAN, FACULTY OF ARTSR

A change of leadership has taken place in the Faculty of Arts, University of Calabar, as Prof. Chike Augustine Ekeopara emerged as the new Dean, following an overwhelming vote of confidence from faculty members.

In the same vein, Dr. Itang Egbung, who ran unopposed, emerged as the Deputy Dean.

The election, held during an extraordinary Faculty meeting, saw Prof. Chike secure 89 votes, narrowly defeating his closest competitor, Prof. Andrew Essien, who garnered 87 votes.

Speaking shortly after the election, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Florence Obi, represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor Administration, Prof. Eno Grace Nta, congratulated the Faculty of Arts, describing it as a premier faculty.

The Vice Chancellor charged the newly elected Dean to hit the ground running and build on the achievements of the outgoing Dean, Prof. Kyrian Ojong in order to move the faculty to greater heights.

She praised the outgoing Dean for his achievements and urged the new Dean to work hard to justify the confidence reposed in him.

Prof. Ojong, in his remarks,  thanked faculty members for their support, highlighting achievements such as the establishment of an E-Library and physical Library, and securing approval for a new Faculty complex.

In his acceptance speech, the new Dean emphasized his commitment to restoring the faculty's voice and prioritizing staff welfare.

He pledged to run an open-door policy and work as a team to achieve desired results.
