Biafra agitators have declared the United States of Biafra with the formation of an initial 40 states.

But the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has distanced themselves from the self acclaimed Prime Minister of Biafra Government in Exile (BRGIE) Simon Ekpa and his activities.

The declaration was made on November 29, in Lahti, Finland during a Pro-Biafra conference held by a faction of the Biafra agitators known as Biafra Republic Government-in-Exile (BRGIE) led by Simon Ekpa.

Ekpa, the self-proclaimed Prime Minister of the Biafra Republic Government-in-Exile, is currently facing terrorism-related charges for allegedly inciting violence in Nigeria’s South-East region through social media.

Ngozi Orabueze a Pro-Biafran agitator who was appointed chief of staff to the prime minister led the declaration on behalf of the prime minister Ekpa who is currently in detention in Finland.

Orabueze announced the establishment of the new state, saying the republic will operate with its own currency and time zone.

After taking the oath of office and formal declaration, she wrote on her X handle saying “Breaking: It is done. Biafrans in Finland for the declaration of the independent United States of Biafra. Power belongs to the people.”

She later added, “Biafra has been re-declared today, November 29, 2024, by Ngozi Orabueze, the Chief of Staff, United States of Biafra. Congratulations to all Biafrans all over the world.”

Meanwhile, The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has distanced themselves from the self acclaimed Prime Minister of Biafra Government in Exile (BRGIE) Simon Ekpa and his activities, describing the group as imposters.

A statement released and signed by IPOB spokesman, Emma Powerful, declared that Simon Ekpa is never a registered member of IPOB.

“Simon Ekpa has never and is not an IPOB member, let alone being a leader in IPOB. IPOB has some family units in Finland, and Simon Ekpa is not a registered member of any IPOB unit in Finland or any other IPOB unit globally. Mazi Nnamdi Kanu established IPOB as a peaceful movement to seek Biafra Independence via a supervised UN referendum.

“It is unfortunate that  some innocent Biafrans being passionate for the restoration of the stolen sovereignty of the Biafran Nation, thought that Simon Ekpa was genuinely sympathetic to the Biafra course. Sadly, they had to learn the hard way that he was a destructive agent paid to infiltrate and destroy the IPOB peaceful movement for Biafra self-determination” the statement read in parts.
