Jarigbe: Stop stirring rift with Otu

By Ekanem Asuquo

The Senator representing Cross River North Senatorial District, Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe, has urged individuals behind what he described as false narratives to stop attempts aimed at creating discord between him and the Governor of Cross River State.

In a statement addressing recent online commentaries, Jarigbe said some persons using pseudo media platforms were deliberately trying to fabricate a rift between him and Governor Bassey Otu.

He alleged that the same individuals had previously opposed his emergence as the All Progressives Congress senatorial candidate for Cross River North and were now circulating comments designed to pit him against the governor.

The senator stressed that there was no basis for comparing the office of a governor with that of a senator, noting that his constitutional responsibility is lawmaking, not executive governance. He cautioned against dragging his name into what he described as a campaign of calumny targeted at the governor.

Jarigbe also praised Governor Otu’s performance in office, citing key infrastructure projects across the state. He highlighted the completion of the Okuku to Okpoma road, which he said had previously been a death trap for commuters in past administrations.

He also referenced ongoing work on the Bekwarra to Obudu road, while raising concerns about the handling of the project by an indigenous contractor. He called for closer scrutiny of the project and urged that public funds be properly utilised to ensure quality delivery.

The senator further commended the construction of a Governor’s Lodge in Ogoja, describing it as a long-awaited project that reflects purposeful governance in the northern senatorial district.

He advised political actors who recently secured tickets under the APC to focus on grassroots mobilisation in their constituencies rather than remaining in Calabar engaging in political distractions. According to him, electoral success depends on direct engagement with the people and not propaganda or blackmail.

Jarigbe called for unity and focus on development, urging stakeholders to prioritise good governance and deliver democratic dividends to the people of Cross River North and the state at large.
