Ikom Under Siege As Cult-Killings Escalate

A deadly wave of cult-related violence has plunged parts of Ikom Local Government Area of Cross River State into chaos and bloodshed, as the Klans and Vikings confraternities continue their brutal war with terrifying precision and growing impunity.
What began as a localized conflict in Okuni community has now metastasized into a full-blown crisis, spreading like wildfire into neighboring villages. On Saturday, a member of the Klans cult group, Alobi Nsor, was gunned down in cold blood—an act that now appears to have been just the opening salvo in a horrifying sequence of attacks.
On Monday, gunmen believed to be members of the rival Vikings cult stormed Akam community and shot a Klans member in the abdomen shortly after he returned from his farm. Witnesses say the assailants rode directly into the victim’s compound, opened fire without warning, and vanished before anyone could react. The victim survived, but the message was clear: no one is safe.
By Thursday morning, the violence took an even more gruesome turn. In an act of sheer savagery, another Klans member, identified simply as Ubong, was hunted down and executed in Akam village by suspected Vikings cultists. The killers reportedly attempted to behead him on the spot—only abandoning the act midway.
Now, fear grips these once peaceful communities. “We’ve never witnessed anything like this,” one elder told BEAGLE NEWS. “We are afraid to sleep. We are afraid to step outside. Even in broad daylight, danger feels just around the corner.”
Security forces have been hurriedly deployed, and traditional rulers have imposed a strict 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. curfew, but locals fear the measures may be too little, too late. Tensions remain high, and the streets—especially at night—are eerily quiet, save for whispers of revenge and the hum of passing motorcycles that now inspire dread rather than routine.
The cult war shows no signs of stopping, and with each strike, the communities spiral deeper into violence and uncertainty. What started as a feud between rival cults has now become a reign of terror.
