C'River APC List Deceased General, Supreme Court Judge as Party Stakeholders Invited For Stakeholders Meeting

The Cross River State All Progressives Congress recently released a statement listing a deceased retired army general among stakeholders invited to a state stakeholders meeting.

The press release, signed by the state publicity secretary Hon. Emmanuel Edem Inyang, named General Edward Unimna (Rtd), who passed away in March 2025, as a stakeholder representing Obudu Local Government, invited to the meeting scheduled for Monday, February 16, 2026, in Calabar.

The press release also invited Honorable Justice1 Emmanuel Agim, a sitting supreme court judge, as a stakeholder from Obudu, as well as Prof. Offiong E Offiong, Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, and Prof. Francisca Bassey, Vice Chancellor of the University of Cross River (UNICROSS), as stakeholders from Calabar South and Akpabuyo, respectively.

However, the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Code of Conduct for Judicial Officers prohibit Supreme Court judges and all judicial officers from being partisan or members of political parties, while Vice Chancellors, who serve as umpires in elections in Nigeria, are expected to remain unbiased and non-partisan.

The list has been widely criticized in various quarters, with the party yet to respond to what is perceived as a grave error.
