C'River: Army Arrests Suspected Arms Trafficker, Seizes 245 Cartridges in Abi

The Nigerian Army has arrested a suspected arms trafficker and recovered 245 pump action cartridges during an intelligence-driven operation in Abi Local Government Area of Cross River State.
The suspect was apprehended by troops of 245 Battalion operating under the Headquarters of 13 Brigade on Sunday, January 26, 2026, following credible intelligence on the movement of illicit arms within the area.
The arrested suspect, identified as Mr. Ojo Friday, hails from Ochon community in Obubra Local Government Area of Cross River State but is reported to be residing in Abomege, Ebonyi State.
Military sources disclosed that the recovered ammunition was allegedly meant for illegal distribution to criminal elements. The suspect and the seized cartridges have been taken into custody, while investigations are ongoing to determine the source of the arms and unravel possible networks linked to the trafficking operation.
Reacting to the arrest, the Commander of 13 Brigade Nigerian Army, Brigadier General P. O. Alimikhena, said the operation underscores the Army’s commitment to proactive and intelligence-led security operations aimed at curbing the proliferation of small arms and light weapons.
He noted that the Nigerian Army will continue to work in synergy with other security agencies and host communities to disrupt criminal supply chains that pose threats to peace and stability in Cross River State.
Brigadier General Alimikhena commended the troops involved for their professionalism, vigilance and swift response, adding that the success reflects the high level of operational readiness within the Brigade.
He further called on residents to support security efforts by providing timely and credible information that would assist in enhancing safety and security across the state.
The Army reiterated its resolve to sustain robust operations against criminal activities within its area of responsibility to ensure a secure environment for residents and economic activities.
