We'll Run a People Centered Government, Amaechi Promises Electorate in Calabar...
Says FG, NNPCL 30 Days Discount is Subsidy in Disguise

The vice presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Rotimi Amaechi has said the current minimum wage is not enough for Nigerian workers.
Amaechi while speaking in Calabar, the Cross River State capital, during a town hall meeting with party faithfuls and electorates said the low minimum wage is the reason why crime will not stop in the country.
He explained that when the take home pay cannot take the labourer home, he results to other means for survival irrespective of who is affected.
The former Rivers State governor criticized the removal of fuel subsidy, noting that it led to a rise in prices of goods and services with low minimum wage.
On the recent 30-day temporary petrol price discount at Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, NNPCL retail stations declared by the federal government from October 1, aimed at prioritizing public transport operators and easing economic hardship, the vice presidential candidate said the discount is no different from the subsidy the Federal Government claimed to have removed.
He declared that voted into office, the ADC government will only make decisions that will benefit the larger populace.
"You said you have removed fuel subsidy yet still come back to declare a 30 days fuel discount? What is the difference between e discount and subsidy?
When we're voted into office, we'll run a government that is people centered where we'll sit with the citizens and all stakeholders to discuss what is best for us," he added.
Earlier, the Cross River State Chairman of ADC, Mr. Godwin Asam Efa, said Cross River State is at the verge of making history with the first ever elected female state governor in Nigeria in the person of Ambassador Nkoyo Toyo.
"We are at the verge of making history by electing the first ever elected female governor in Nigeria so we must be prepared."
"We must show the ruling party that they cannot rig this election. After voting, defend your votes, if you don't defend your votes then you'll be encouraging them to rig," Efa said.
On her part, the state governorship candidate, Ambassador Nkoyo Toyo, said the ADC candidates are grassrooters have continually kept in touch with the grassroot.
"The beauty of this electoral season is that we have a candidate who has the touch of the people. He's able to move in, speak to the people, engage the people, have a conversation with the people".
"We had to give him the opportunity to engage with us, to tell us the story of what it means to return sanity to our country after four years of taking it away. We must return back to a nation that cares for its people and not just a nation that extracts from its people".
It is time for us to join the chorus and say APC must go," Toyo added.
The engagement also saw the vice presidential candidate meet with all the party candidates in the state as well as religious leaders and other key institutions.
