UNICROSS Vice Chancellor Engages Okuku Campus Students in Interactive Session
The Vice Chancellor of the University of Cross River State (UNICROSS), Prof. Francisca Bassey, has held an interactive session with students of the University’s Okuku Campus, providing an open platform for dialogue on issues relating to their academic experience, welfare and the development of the campus.
The engagement formed part of the Vice Chancellor’s commitment to strengthening communication between the University Management and the student body, while ensuring that students’ concerns and expectations are properly understood and reflected in administrative decisions.
Speaking during the session, Prof. Bassey drew an analogy between university administration and parenting, explaining that, like parents who make sacrifices and put structures in place for the wellbeing of their children, university administrators often undertake initiatives whose benefits may not always be immediately recognised by those they are intended to serve.
She noted that direct and candid engagement with students was therefore essential to enabling Management to better understand their specific needs and identify areas requiring further intervention.
Representatives of the Student Union Government (SUG), speaking on behalf of the students, presented a number of concerns and highlighted areas requiring attention on the Okuku Campus.
Responding to the issues raised, the Vice Chancellor disclosed that several of the concerns presented by the students had already been identified by Management and that steps had been taken to address some of them.
She assured the students that the University Management remains committed to deploying available resources towards improving their learning environment and providing facilities and services that support effective teaching, learning and student welfare.
Prof. Bassey also appealed to the students to recognise and appreciate ongoing efforts and interventions by Management, while continuing to constructively communicate areas where further improvements are needed.
She stressed the importance of mutual respect, patience and constructive engagement in building a stronger University community.
The Vice Chancellor reaffirmed her commitment to the development of UNICROSS, assuring the students that Management would continue to work diligently towards creating a more conducive academic environment and advancing the University’s standing nationally and internationally.
The interactive session underscored the importance of sustained engagement between University Management and students as partners in the continuous development of the institution.
