UNICAL Calls for Memoranda Over Alleged Admission Irregularities

The Senate of the University of Calabar has called on members of the university community, parents, and other stakeholders to submit memoranda containing credible information regarding alleged irregularities in the institution’s admission process.

The call was contained in a memo issued by the Secretary of the Senate Ad-hoc Committee, Onen Ubi, following deliberations during the Senate meeting held last week.

According to the memo, Senate members expressed serious concern over reports of admission racketeering and other irregularities that reportedly affected the 2024/2025 and 2025/2026 admission exercises.

The document noted that the alleged irregularities resulted in cases of over-admission, which have created administrative and management challenges for the university.

In response to the situation, the Senate constituted an Ad-hoc Committee to investigate the allegations and recommend appropriate measures to address the issue and prevent future occurrences.

The committee has therefore invited individuals with useful and verifiable information to assist its investigation by submitting memoranda.

All submissions are to be addressed to the Chairman of the Committee, Prof. (Mrs.) Dorothy Oluwagbemi-Jacob, and delivered to her office at the Department of Philosophy in the university.

The memo added that all memoranda must reach the committee on or before the close of work on Monday, March 16, 2026.
