SOLUDO SHUTS ONITSHA MAIN MARKET
Governor of Anambra State, Gov. Charles Soludo has ordered the temporary shutdown of Onitsha main market owing to traders defiance of government's directive which ordered them to open shops and discontinue the prolonged sit-at-home on Mondays, which began in the south-east, after the arrest and continued detention of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Nnamdi Kanu.
During his unscheduled visit to the market, Governor Soludo said the directive was aimed at sending a strong message to his people, that the sit-at-home practice would no longer be tolerated in Anambra State. He regretted that the sit-at-home order, has crippled economic activities in the state in particular and the southeast region as a whole and as such, must be abolished. The Governor also warned civil servants who previously stayed back from work because of the sit-at-home order on Mondays, that from henceforth, there shall be salary deductions and no culprits shall be spared.
