SDP Picks Adebayo as 2027 Presidential Flagbearer at Bauchi Convention
The Social Democratic Party has chosen Prof. Adewole Adebayo to lead its ticket for the 2027 presidential election.
Delegates from all 36 states and the FCT unanimously affirmed Adebayo as the party’s sole candidate during the national convention and presidential primaries held in Bauchi on Saturday, May 9, 2026.
Edoho James-Nsima, who chaired the electoral committee, announced the outcome after the exercise. He said the process followed the Electoral Act and INEC guidelines for the 2027 polls, and that no other aspirant contested the position.
In his acceptance speech, Adebayo said an SDP government would focus on policies that put Nigerians first and drive long-term social and economic growth.
He listed poverty reduction, improved security, revival of idle industries, job creation, and better access to free education and healthcare as top priorities. He also pledged to uphold democratic norms and strengthen governance.
Adebayo called on other opposition parties to unite against the ruling APC, arguing that a common front would help deepen democracy and accountability in Nigeria.
He thanked Bauchi Governor Bala Mohammed for providing the support that made the convention run smoothly.
