Police Bows To Public Pressure, Commence Investigation Of Kwam 1 Airport Fracas

The Nigeria Police Force has formally begun an investigation into the unruly behavior of popular musician Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, widely known as Kwam 1, following an incident at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on August 5, 2025.
This development comes after the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) submitted an official petition accusing Kwam 1 of obstructing the safe operation of an aircraft, violating the Nigerian Civil Aviation Regulations, 2023.
In a press statement released on August 12, 2025, the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, disclosed that Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has directed the Commissioner of Police at the Airport Command to launch a thorough probe into the incident.
The investigation aims to clarify the circumstances surrounding the airport fracas and ensure appropriate justice is administered.
The Police assured the public of their dedication to maintaining safety and security in Nigeria’s aviation sector and pledged to enhance cooperation with aviation stakeholders to enforce regulations strictly.
Meanwhile, reactions from prominent political figures have added fuel to the fire, with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former presidential candidate Peter Obi raising concerns over perceived selective justice.
Both leaders questioned the prompt arraignment of Comfort Emmanson, the lady involved in the Ibom Air certificate saga, while Kwam 1’s case had seemingly faced delays.
Atiku Abubakar urged authorities to apply the law fairly and without bias, stressing that justice must be blind and equal for all citizens regardless of status.
Peter Obi echoed similar sentiments, urging the police and judiciary to uphold integrity by treating all cases with the same urgency and fairness.
The incident and the police response highlight growing public demand for transparency and consistency in law enforcement, especially in high-profile cases that capture national attention.
As the investigation unfolds, Nigerians await the outcome, hoping for justice that reinforces the rule of law and restores public confidence in the nation’s security institutions.
