Plymouth Striker Owen Oseni Excited Over Maiden Nigeria Invitation
Owen Oseni has expressed excitement after receiving his first invitation to the Nigeria National Football Team, describing the moment as unbelievable.
The 23-year-old Plymouth Argyle striker was named in Nigeria’s squad for upcoming international friendly matches against Poland National Football Team and Portugal National Football Team ahead of the World Cup.
Oseni is also expected to feature in the Unity Cup tournament scheduled to hold in London later this month, where Nigeria will face Zimbabwe National Football Team before meeting either India National Football Team or Jamaica National Football Team.
Speaking to [BBC Sport](https://www.bbc.com/sport?utm_source=chatgpt.com), Oseni said he was shocked by the invitation, considering the fierce competition for places in the Nigerian national team.
The forward enjoyed a strong finish to the season, scoring three goals in Plymouth’s last four League One matches as the club narrowly missed the promotion play-offs.
Oseni completed the campaign with 10 goals in 33 appearances during his debut season in the English Football League after joining Plymouth from St Mirren F.C.. He previously played for Gateshead F.C..
Born in Ireland, Oseni qualifies to represent Nigeria through his father, while his mother’s Ivorian roots also make him eligible for Ivory Coast National Football Team.
The striker said representing Nigeria was an opportunity he could not reject, adding that he never imagined such a chance would come but remained focused on hard work throughout his career.
