PDP Ibadan Convention: Govs Makinde, Diri, Mba George, Wabara, Egwu, Others Meet Over Zoning As Wike's Camp Boycotts

From Lanre Oluwole, Lagos
Despite opposition, stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from the southern part of the country
are currently holding meeting in Lagos to deliberate on the zoning of key offices ahead of the party’s forthcoming national convention.
The meeting, tagged “PDP Southern Zoning Consultative Summit”, drew top leaders of the party from across the region.
The meeting, which began at approximately 2:30 p.m., took place amid heightened controversy over the party’s zoning arrangement.
This meeting started barely a few hours after some stakeholders from the South, especially those in the FCT Minister, Dr. Nyesom Wike, camp, had earlier dismissed it as illegal by holding a separate meeting in Lagos today reportedly zoning offices.
In attendance were Governors Seyi Makinde of Oyo State and Douye Diri of Bayelsa. Enugu State Deputy Governor, Barrister Ifeanyi Ossai, represented Governor Peter Mbah at the parley.
Also present were the Chairman of the party’s Board of Trustees, Senator Adolphus Wabara; former PDP Deputy National Chairman, Chief Olabode George; former governors Olagunsoye Oyinlola (Osun), Sam Egwu (Ebonyi), and Udom Emmanuel (Akwa Ibom).
Others at the summit included former Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Jumoke Akinjide; Dr. Ali Odefa; Chief Emma Ogidi; Hon. Nnena Ukeje, and Dr. Eddy Olafeso.
With this development, there are strong indications that the party is set for another round of legal battle to determine which group produces the authentic leadership.
