Women Are Embodiment Of Hard Work - Rev. Otu

The Wife of the Cross River State Governor, Rev. (Mrs) Eyoanwan Bassey Otu has described women as an embodiment of hard work, love, harmony and bridges, replete with capacity to perform effectively in whatever responsibilities they are given.

Rev. Eyoanwan Otu who gave the description while meeting with the African Women Leadership Organisation in her office pledged her continued support to the advocacy for more women in leadership positions, adding that whatever is committed in the hands of women, they can protect.

The Governor’s wife informed that from the inception of the present administration, she has been involved in humanitarian activities, adding that her NGO “Humanity Without Borders” is an empowerment initiative that focuses on Agriculture, Social Welfare, Agriculture, Environment and Health, adding that the essence is "Touching Lives and Changing Destiny."

Her Excellency appreciated AWLO for finding women worthy to be celebrated and empowered to aspire for higher positions of authority, noting that the role of women in national development cannot be overemphasized. While lauding the initiative of AWLO to organize an Akwa-Cross Youth Summit, she informed that there would be an Akwa-Cross Women Summit to further empower women and make them self-reliant. 

The AWLO President who celebrated Rev. Eyoanwan for her resilience in giving a viable platform for women to thrive in leadership position and otherwise, informed that the organisation is working on organising an Akwa-Cross Youth Leadership Summit in Cross River and Akwa Ibom States to raise leadership consciousness in the next generation of leaders.

Earlier, the Founder and President, African Women in Leadership Oragnisation (AWLO), Dr. Elisha Attai she has been nominated for the Pan African Leadership Award because of she believes in the vision of AWLO and contributed in sponsoring women to be trained and empowered, adding that “the ability to bring up more leaders makes you a leader.” He advocated for more women to be involved in the polity and leadership of the State at all levels.

Dr. Attai appreciated the Senator Bassey Otu led administration for appointing one of its members, Bishop Margaret Ene Ita as a Commissioner, informing that she has contributed immensely to human development. He offered the availability of the organization to work with and support the Office of the Wife of the Governor in the implementation of projects for the the benefit of humanity.

He admonished the men who believe in gender parity to be audacious in the support for women. “We have some schools here in Cross River State. We want to raise boys to become men from the scratch. Go to secondary schools as ‘he for she’ Champions, lets see how we can raise our young boys to know how to treat women, how to relate with women,” he said. 

Also speaking, the Commissioner for Social Welfare and Community Development, Bishop Margaret Ene Ita informed that the organization carry out Medical Outreaches and from time to time, go to Secondary Schools to educate the students on etiquettes and core values, noting that some core values have been lost and it is their responsibility to restore these values. She described the women of AWLO as Women of Worth (WOW) who according to her are using their various platforms to build capacity of young girls and women.

Worthy of note is that the African Women in Leadership (AWLO), is an International not-for-profit organisation for female leaders of African descent, and for changing the narrative and building the capacity of African Women in Leadership through Networking, Exceptional Leadership Development and Social Impact. It has presence in 15 African Countries, the United States of America, United Kingdom, and Canada.

Highpoint of the visit was the decoration of the Wife of the Governor, Rev. Eyoanwan Otu as a life Patron of the organisation.
