Ebonyi state: Appeal Court Affirms Nwifru As Authentic Winner of March 18 Governorship Election

The Court of Appeal in sitting in Lagos today affirmed Rt.Hon. Francis Ogbonnaya Nwifuru as the authentic winner of the March 18, 2023 governorship election. 

The learned Justices of the Court of Appeal unanimously upheld the decision of the trial Tribunal which ruled that Francis Ogbonnaya Nwifuru was the duly elected Governor of Ebonyi State.

The Court held that the issue of membership of a political party is a domestic affairs of the political party concerned hence, not justiciable.

The Court of Appeal held that the Tribunal even lacked the jurisdiction to entertain the question of membership, nomination and sponsorship of a candidate to election as same being a pre-election matter and therefore dismissed the Appeal filed by Anyi Chuks, governorship candidate of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), PPD as lacking in merit.
