War College Inaugurates 25 Officers Warfare Course 9 With 6 Foreigners
The Nigeria Navy War College (NWCN) on Friday inaugurated 25 officers as participants for the Naval Warfare Course 9 of the college which officially kicked off on January 15.
The inauguration ceremony was performed by the commandant of the college, Rear Admiral Abdullahi Ahmed.
The Course 9 participants comprises of 17 Naval officers, two Army, two air force and one civilian from the Nigeria Defense College.
The commandant also listed three foreign participants; two Cameroonians and a Ghanian as members of the Course 9.
A lecture titled: "Operational Level Leadership: A Requirement for National Security in Nigeria" was presented by Rear Admiral Silvester Umusen (rtd).
In the lecture, Umusen described the importance of operational level leadership in the country's quest to win the war against insurgency and other security challenges in the nation.
He advised the participants to take seriously the lecture and this opportunity was several there in time past.
"Operational leadership is what is needed to translate instructions or directives from the headquarters to the field," he stated.
On how to combat the nation's security challenges, the retired Naval officer said more resources is needed for the military forces.
According to him, "Presently, the military are doing their best, but, they need more resources to deal with the challenges.
"The requirements to deal with matter like this requires more training, equipment.
"I know that the government is doing their best, but, they need to do more; it requires a lot of resources."
I'm his remark, the Flag Officer Commanding of the Eastern Naval Command, Rear Admiral Saheed Akinwande described lecture topic as apt.
He urged the participants to understand the fast changing and complexities of the contemporary security environment in the world generally and in Nigeria in particular.
"You must then situate the military within these changes and ask yourself how to I best function in the face of these changes.
"This is where the Naval Warfare Course become relevant to equip you with the necessary skills set to critically analyse complex security situations.
"You need it to develop robust fail-proof plans and execute them to achieve the strategic directives you will be given from time to time," he stated.
