A Cross River-born medical star, Dr. Yibala Akpama Edimek, has made history by emerging as the overall best candidate in the prestigious West African College of Surgeons (WACS) Fellowship Examination—a feat she achieved on her first attempt.
Adding to this remarkable accomplishment, she was also awarded the Best Female Candidate in West Africa, solidifying her status as a trailblazer in Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
Dr. Yibala received these double honors at the 65th Annual Scientific Conference of WACS, held in Bamako, Mali, where she was recognized for her outstanding academic excellence and professional expertise.
The West African College of Surgeons is a prestigious institution that sets the gold standard for surgical education, training, and research across the continent, accrediting top-tier medical professionals.
Her parents, Elder Dr. Akpama and Rev. Hon. Mercy Akpama, expressed immense pride in their daughter’s achievement, attributing her success to God’s grace, dedication, and perseverance.
“As she continues to soar like an eagle, we wish her all the best in her chosen profession for the good and service of humanity.”
Dr. Yibala’s success is a monumental win not just for her family but also for Nko Community, the Yakurr Nation, Cross River State, Nigeria, and the entire medical community.
Her journey from a House Officer at the State House Medical Center to working in the Federal Ministry of Works Clinic, Nisa Premier Hospital, and the Federal Capital Territory Administration Hospitals—including Asokoro, Maitama, and currently Wuse District Hospital—is a testament to her hard work and excellence.
