Unical Tennis Stars Set For China
Budding tennis stars from the University of Calabar who distinguished themselves at the last Nigerian Universities Games(NUGA) to earned selection to China after trails in Benin have appealed for supports from corporate citizens and individuals to facilitate the trip
The pair Vivian Ekpenyong and Oluchi Amah maintained that government efforts in running tennis "need to be complemented by public-spirited Individuals and corporate organisations if Nigeria must make a headway in tennis at global tournaments"
According to Vivian who has competed in Thailand and Ghanaian junior table tennis tournament" for tennis to attain the popularity we are craving for, the private sector need to be involved to fast track the development of the sport for attainment of desired aspirations"
She expressed appreciation to God for his benevolence as well as the school authority for giving her the platform to express her talent
" I have participated in a junior table tennis tournament held in Thailand and Ghana where I performed creditably by God's grace. Exposure to China would be a great way of polishing my talent ahead of expected future engagements"
Speaking, Oluchi Amah, a 100-level Political Science student said she is delighted with the prospects of representing Nigeria in China. This is my first trip outside Nigeria for a major tournament so I intend to do my best to justify the confidence reposed in me"
In his remarks, the coach of the pair, Solomon Boniface revealed that Vivian and Oluchi were selected after emerging as best garnering three goals at the NUGA and other laurels at the trail tournament held in Benin, Edo state.
The pair will be part of the Nigerian contingent World Universities Games slated for China in July this year.
