Kudos Trail Edem Over Europe Title Win

Encomiums have continued to trail Cross River-born tennis star Offiong Edem after becoming the first Nigerian female tennis player to win a European laurel.

Offiong recorded the feat when her club, ASD Quattro Cagliari club of Italy defeated Hungary's Budaorsi in a two-legged final held in Budapest.

The Italian club parading Offiong Edem emerged top outclassing their opponents 3-2 and 3-0 respectively in the first and second match.

Baring her mind, Offiong opined "I am so happy we won the European Cup Women's Table Tennis title. I am proud of everyone and I am so overwhelmed."

"We were cautious in our approach to every match. We were focused  and we gave every match the intensity both in the first and second leg."

Commenting on the issue, a sports enthusiast in Calabar, Comrade Etim Ating expressed delight over the development noting that it portends a good sign for the future of the game in the state and country.

"We must thank Chief Orok Duke for the concerted effort in grooming and projecting the likes of Offiong Edem, Cecilia Akpan, and others to the global limelight."

In his reaction, a stakeholder in the tennis circle in the state, Bishop Usen Umoh attributed the feat to "hard work, dedication, and passion demonstrated by Offiong Edem in her professional career."

He enjoined the star not to rest on her oars but step up her game to enhance her current ranking.
