SENATOR ANYANWU REMAINS PDP NATIONAL SECRETARY
From Abdul SULE, ABUJA
The ongoing dispute over the position of National Secretary within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has taken a significant turn following the issuance of a stay of execution order by the court.
This order temporarily halts the enforcement of a previous Appeal Court judgment that removed Senator Samuel Anyanwu from the position.
According to report from Vanguard, speaking at a press conference in Abuja, the PDP’s Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Ibrahim Abdullahi, emphasized the party’s commitment to upholding the law. He noted that the party had no choice but to comply with the recent court directive. According to Abdullahi, the matter regarding the rightful holder of the National Secretary position has been a central topic of discussion within the party in recent days.
He revealed that on January 15, the party was served with an interim injunction from the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in Maitama. The injunction was issued in a case filed by the Imo State PDP Chairman, Austine Nwachukwu, through his legal counsel, Clement Mue.
The suit, marked CV/64/2025, effectively restrains the PDP and its agents from implementing the Appeal Court decision that recognized Ude Okoye as the National Secretary.
Abdullahi stated that the party, as a law-abiding entity, would respect the court order and prepare a legal defense for upcoming hearings scheduled for January 8 and February 5. He urged all PDP members to remain calm and law-abiding while awaiting the court’s final decision on the matter.
He further cautioned party members against falling prey to political distractions and emphasized the importance of adhering to constitutional provisions and the rule of law. Abdullahi stressed that the PDP, as the country’s leading opposition party, must focus on its critical responsibilities rather than allowing internal disputes to derail its mission.
He called on members to approach the issue with civility and maintain the party’s integrity, warning against actions that could harm the party’s unity and credibility. Abdullahi concluded by reminding members of their collective duty to uphold democratic values and ensure that leadership conflicts are resolved within the framework of the law.
