Palliatives: Otu Declares Free Tuition For Public Primary, Secondary Schools

The Governor of Cross River State, Sen. Bassey Otu, has declared a free tuition for all pupils in public primary and secondary schools in the state.

In a memo signed by the Secretary to the State Government, and chairman of the Palliative Distribution Committee, Prof. Anthony Enoh, the Governor stated that the declaration takes effect immediately from the current academic session.

According to Otu, the government has taken this decision to help cushion the effects on petrol subsidy removal which is currently bitting deep and creating harsh conditions of living for parents across the country.

The Governor also extended the palliative care service to the senior secondary schools, as he has issued an exemption for the senior cadre not to pay for their examination fees in the state, beginning with the current academic session.

Prof. Anthony Enoh stated that the steps taken by the Governor, are part of the palliative measures to cushion the effects of the harsh economic realities occasioned by the removal of the fuel subsidy.
