Cross River State Governor, Sen. Prince Bassey Otu, his Delta State counterpart, Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, were among the dignitaries who bid farewell to a former Divisional Manager of the defunct Mercantile Bank, Lagos, late Obong Ukpong Dan Umoh.

Otu, who worked under the supervision of the deceased at the defunct Mercantile Bank, described late Umoh as a perfect and humble gentleman who dedicated quality time for service rendition at the various position he held at the bank including his private practice.

Recalling with nostalgia their days at the defunct bank, Otu said, “Painful as it is, we are however consoled by the fact that Obong Umoh lived a fulfilled life as exemplified by his numerous positive and very solid legacies on the sands of time as those he left behind are clear testament of his hard work.

“I am even more sad that Obong Umoh, who until his death was the Mkpisong Ibibio, Adiaha Ikono in Ikono Clan, Utueekong Uyo, Ntanya Uyo, all in Akwa Ibom State and the family head of Ekpuk Nnung Umoumoh Ekwon Royal House, passed at a time we all needed his wise counsels more," a statement by his chief press secretary, Emmanuel Ogbeche, said.

In his sermon, the Presiding Prelate of African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church, Bishop Uduak Effiong, who spoke on the topic, “A Good Name," admonished Christians to live a life worthy of emulation any where they find themselves as all shall give account of themselves when the judge shall appear.

The clergyman, who took his Bible messsge from Ecclesiastes Chapter 7:1 said that the only way a good name could be attained is by exhibiting Christ-like characters, engaging in fruitful and soul lifting communications as well as living a life of Christ while on earth.

The clergy, who is an indigene of Cross River State, used the occasion to pray for a successful tenure for Sen. Otu, and expressed the hope that his administration will usher in a season of sweetness that will transform the socio-economic landscape of the state.

A biography of the deceased read by one of his children, Ekomobong Ukpong Umoh, described Late Umoh as an influential political and community builder who imparted the family, community and the state positively.

The deceased who died at the age of 83, was born on May 30, 1939 into the royal family of late Pastor Dan Umoh Umo Ekown of Udo-Nyung in Ikono Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom.
