NWC Reinstates Vena As C'River PDP Chairman

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reinstated the Cross River chapter chairman of the party in the state, Mr Venatius Ikem.

Ikem's reinstatement was contained in a statement by the
National Organising Secretary,
Umar Bature and made available to Beagles News in Calabar on Friday.

According to the statement, Ikem's reinstatement followed a meeting of the party's NWC held on December 12, 2024, where all the issues of the party in Cross River were deliberated upon.

"Accordingly, the NWC directed that you continue to exercise your constitutional duties as State Chairman and further directs that another meeting with the critical stakeholders in Cross River be scheduled.

"Similarty, you were also directed to continue your reconciliatory effort with the view of bringing a lasting solution to the lingering crisis.

"It is on the strength of these that I wish to officially communicate to you that, having violated Section 59(3) of the Constitution of the Peoples Democratic Party (2017 as amended), the suspension is null and void and of no effect," Bature noted.

Speaking, Vena said: "My purported suspension was null and void ab initio because the State Working Committee lacks the power to discipline a NEC member in line with S. 59(3) Construction of the PDP ( as Amended) 2017.

"I am a member of the Party's NEC in a dual capacity. First as a former member of NWC and as a state chairman."
