Cross River Governor Vows to Boost Funding for Gully Erosion Control

The Cross River State Governor Senator Bassey Otu has assured the Nigerian Climate Adaptation - Erosion and Watershed Project (NEWMAP-EIB) of increased counterpart funding to tackle issues of gully erosions in the state.

The state Governor who was represented by his deputy Rt. Hon. Peter Odey made the commitment during a courtesy visit by the national project coordinator of The Nigerian Climate Adaptation - Erosion and Watershed Project (NEWMAP-EIB) Engr. Anda Ayuba Yalaks in his office in Calabar.

Making his commitment, the state Governor stated that his administration is a people oriented administration that will do anything to make sure residents are comfortable and free from any life threatening hazards.


He lamented that Cross River is one of the states most prone and affected by gully erosion due to its topography and climatic condition due to excessive rainfall adding that this has led to loss of properties worth millions of Naira.

He acknowledged the intervention made  by Cross River State NEWMAP phase 1 where major interventions were undertaken especially in the state capital.

The Governor lauded the team for continuity while pledging the state’s readiness to offer full support to NEWMAP-EIB in  combating Gully Erosion in the State.

The NPC receiving an award of outstanding performance from the Deputy Governor 

High point of the visit was the presentation of an award of outstanding performance to the national coordinating office of NEWMAP-EIB.
