By Missang AKPET
Cross River State Governor, Senator Bassey Otu, has sworn in the vice chairman of Bekwara local government council Hon. Egbung Odama as the Acting Chairman of Bekwarra Local Government Council.
The swearing-in ceremony follows the suspension of the former chairman, Hon. Theresa Ushie, who was impeached by the legislative council over alleged administrative lapses.
Performing the swearing-in, Governor Otu charged local government chairmen to foster unity and collaboration with their legislative arms and community stakeholders.
He emphasized that disunity at the grassroots level threatens effective governance and service delivery.
The Governor reaffirmed his administration's commitment to people-first, service-oriented leadership.
In his brief remark, the newly sworn-in Acting Chairman, Mr. Egbung Odama Egbung, pledged to lead with integrity, urgency, and inclusiveness.
He expressed appreciation to Governor Otu for the confidence reposed in him and promised to convene a stakeholders' meeting to unite the people and drive development.
The suspension of the former chairman was based on a petition submitted to the Cross River State House of Assembly and the state executive of the All Progressives Congress (APC) by the Bekwara legislative arm bordering on alleged administrative lapses.
The State House of Assembly passed a resolution suspending Ms. Ushie for 90 days while directing the swearing-in of the vice chairman as acting chairman to ensure continuity in governance and service delivery.
