Jarigbe, Eteng, Ekpenyong Credited With  11 Bills As Senate Presents Scorecard

As the 10th National Assembly marks 1 year in office, available  statistics indicates that out of the 109 senators in the red chamber, only 85 introduced at least a bill in the last one year.

The 10th Senate inaugurated on June 13, 2023, will mark its one-year in office on Thursday June 13. 

An assessment of the 109 senators within the past one year reveals that a total 24 Senators representing various regions did not introduce any bills within the period while 279 bills were put forward between July 13, 2023 & March 2024.

Out of the 85, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele (APC, Ekiti Central) holds the record for the highest number of bills, totalling 23 most of which originate from the Executive Arm of government while Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin (APC, Kano North) follows closely behind with 17 bills.

Sani Musa (APC, Niger East) has 8 bills to his name, Olamilekan Adeola (APC, Ogun West), Partrick Ndubueze (APC, Imo North) and Saliu Mustapha (APC, Kwara Central) introduced 7 bills each.

Sunday Karimi (APC, Kogi West), Adetokunboh Abiru (APC, Lagos East), Senator Tony Nwoye (LP, Anambra North) and Kaka Shehu Lawan (APC, Borno Central), six bills; Senate Minority Leader, Abba Moro (PDP, Benue South), Suleiman Sadiq (APC, Kwara North), Jimoh Ibrahim (APC, Ondo South), Hussein Babangida Uba (APC, Jigawa North-West), Asuquo Ekpenyong (APC, Cross River South) and Abbas Aminu Iya,(PDP, Adamawa Central), 5 bills.

The following senators each boost of 4 bills: Mohammed Tahir Monguno representing (APC, Borno North), Ipalibo Harry-Banigo (PDP, (Rivers West), Onawo Mohammed Ogoshi (PDP, Nasarawa South), Aliyu Wadada representing (SDP, Nasarawa West), Barinada Mpigi, (PDP for Rivers South-East), Joel Onowakpo-Thomas (APC, Delta South), Ya’u Sahabi Alhaji (APC, Zamfara North), Bomai Ibrahim representing (APC, Yobe South), Eshilokun Sanni Wasiu (APC, Lagos Central), Khalid Ibrahim Mustapha (PDP, Kaduna North) & Buba Umar Shehu (APC, Bauchi South).

Senators with 3 bills each include Emmanuel Udende Menga (APC, Benue North-East), Isa Jibrin (APC, Kogi East), Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe (PDP, Cross River North), Ned Munir Nwoko (PDP, Delta North), Alli Sharafadeen Abiodun of (APC, Oyo South), Jonah Williams Eteng (APC, Cross River Central), Yisa Ahiru Oyelola (APC, Kwara South), Onyewuchi Ezenwa Francis (LP, Imo East), Buhari Abdulfatai (APC, Oyo North), Etim Bassey Aniekan (PDP, Akwa Ibom North East), Siyako Yaro Anthony (PDP, Gombe South), and Katung Sunday Marshall (PDP, Kaduna South).

The present 10th senate has 13 ex-governors as members. Out of the 13, 9 actively proposed bills during the period under review.
They include; Orji Uzor Kalu (APC, Abia North) 5 bills, Senator Gbenga Daniel (APC, Ogun East) 4 bills, Ibrahim Dankwambo (PDP, Gombe North) 3 bills, Senate President Godswill Akpabio (APC,  Akwa Ibom North-West) 2 bills, Aminu Tambuwal (PDP, Sokoto South) 1 bill, Sani Bello (APC, Niger North) 3 bills, Danjuma Goje (APC, Gombe Central) 2 bills, Aliyu Wammako (APC, Sokoto North) 2 bills, Adamu Aliero (PDP, Kebbi Central) 1 bill.

Meanwhile, the following ex governors, Senators Adams Oshiomhole (APC, Edo North), Henry Seriakie Dickson (PDP, Bayelsa West), Simon Lalong (APC, Plateau South) and Abdulaziz Yari (APC Zamfara West}, are yet to introduce any bills. Ex-Senators Umahi sponsored one bill while Senator Geidam did not sponsor any bills during their time in the Senate.

The 24 senators excluding the 4  former governors who are  yet to  sponsor any bills include Ahmad Lawan (APC, Yobe North), Victor Umeh (LP, Anambra Central), Oluwole Fasuyi Cyril (APC, Ekiti North), Titus Tartenger Zam (APC, Benue North-West), Peter Jiya (PDP, Niger South), Adegbonmire Adeniyi Ayodele (APC, Ondo Central), Oyewumi Kamorudeen Olalere (PDP, Osun West), Anthony Ani (APC, Ebonyi South), Imasuen Neda Bernards (LP, Edo South), Okechukwu Ezea (LP, Enugu North), Chukwu Chizoba (LP, Enugu East), Abdul Ningi (PDP, Bauchi Central), Khabeeb Mustapha (PDP, Jigawa South West), Kaila Samaila Dahuwa (PDP, Bauchi North), Rufai Hanga (NNPP, Kano Central), Abdulaziz Yar’Adua (APC, Katsina Central), Mohammed Dandutse Muntari (APC, Katsina South), Enyinnaya Abaribe (APGA, Abia South), Pam Dachungyang (ADP, Plateau North), Onyesoh Allwell Heacho, (PDP, Rivers East), Ibrahim Lamido (APC, Sokoto East), Manu Haruna (PDP, Taraba Central), Musa Mustapha (APC, Yobe East).
