By Missang AKPET

The erstwhile Chairman of the Cross River State Traditional Rulers Council and Paramount Ruler Of Bakassi Local Government Area, His Royal Majesty Dr Etim Okon Edet has said that his removal as chairman of the Cross River State Traditioinal Rulers Council is in accordance with the law.

Edet who acknowledged the fact that he had overstayed his tenure disclosed that it wasn't his intention to overstay but was asked by successive governors to continue as Chairman Traditioinal Rulers Council.

He said: "The thought Otu has towards me is good and not evil, as a lawyer I know I have overstayed but it wasn't my fault at all.

"There is no harm in what Gov Otu and the State Assembly have jointly done, it is to strengthen the law we all swore to uphold.

The paramount ruler revealed that throughout the 17 years he served as chairman of the council where he served under Governors Liyel Imoke, Ben Ayade and now Senator Bassey Otu, he never asked any of them to return him as chairman Chairman of Traditioinal Rulers Council but was asked by the governors to continue even though they had the prerogative to request his replacement.

"I have never asked any Gov to keep me, they are all alive, go and ask them. They have always asked me to stay including gov otu.

"When you see a man diligent in his work, he stands before Kings, Govs and not mean men" he said.

HRM Etim Okon Edet was removed on Tuesday by the state house of assembly on the grounds that he had over served as Chairman Cross River State Traditioinal Rulers Council with the lawmakers insisting that Edet must step aside for someone else, especially from a different Senatorial District, in line with the establishment law of the Traditional Rulers Council.
