IGP Intensifies Fight Against GBV, Creates GBV Desk Officers Across Divisions

The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun has approved the expansion of Gender Based Violence (GBV) help desk offices to all police divisions nationwide.
The move which was contained in a release signed by force PPRO ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi is in a bid to reinforce the Force’s commitment and enforcement of human rights as well as enhance efficiency, improve service delivery, and ensure easier access to justice for citizens.
To ensure this expansion according to the release, the IGP has ordered the appointment of qualified officers who will undergo specialized training to equip them with the necessary skills, knowledge, and expertise to handle GBV cases effectively as GBV desk officers.
Previously limited to zonal and state commands, this integration is designed to provide a holistic approach to handling gender-based violence and related cases, oversee the Juvenile, Women, and Children (JWC) cases fostering a supportive environment for victims and ensuring swift justice delivery.
The IGP urged all citizens to report incidents of violence and take advantage of these desk offices to seek justice and protection promising that the Nigeria Police Force will remain steadfast in its mission to uphold justice, ensuring that all citizens' rights and freedoms are protected without discrimination or bias.
