Governor Otu Intervenes in Boy’s Hernia Case, Expands Healthcare Coverage for the Vulnerable

In a remarkable demonstration of compassion and commitment to public welfare, Governor Bassey Otu has stepped in to fully sponsor the medical treatment of Joshua Moses, a six-year-old boy suffering from a strangulated hernia that forced him out of school.
Deeply moved by Joshua’s condition, Governor Otu directed the Cross River State Health Insurance Agency to prioritize vulnerable populations, ensuring unrestricted access to quality and affordable healthcare across the state.
Acting on the governor’s directive, the Director General of the Cross River State Health Insurance Scheme, Chief Godwin Iyala, personally oversaw Joshua’s immediate enrollment into the scheme on Thursday. The child was empaneled to Henshaw Town Primary Health Centre and is set to undergo urgent surgery at General Hospital, Calabar, with all medical expenses fully covered by the state.
Chief Iyala emphasized that this intervention aligns with the state’s broader mission to eliminate healthcare barriers for low-income and underserved populations. He urged residents to leverage the administration’s social health intervention programs, which provide lifesaving medical support to those in need.
For Joshua’s father, Mr. Morris Moses, a security guard from Akwa Ibom State, the intervention was a lifeline for his struggling family. Having gone months without pay, he was unable to afford the critical surgery his son required.
Expressing his profound gratitude, Mr. Moses described the governor’s gesture as a true reflection of the “People First” agenda.
“This has lifted a huge burden off my family. The thought of my son suffering due to lack of funds was heartbreaking. Now, knowing that he will soon recover and return to school brings me immense relief. Governor Otu has shown that he truly cares for the people,” he said.
Governor Otu’s swift intervention underscores his administration’s proactive approach to healthcare and social welfare, ensuring that no resident is left behind, regardless of financial circumstances.
With this decisive action, Joshua is now on the path to recovery, standing as a testament to the power of compassionate governance and responsible leadership.
