Akpabuyo Island Lions Club Donates Borehole To Akim Akim Community

Consistent with Lions Club International's humanitarian objectives, the Akpabuyo Island Lions Club has donated a dual-tanked borehole to Akim Akim Community in Odukpani Local Government Area of Cross River State.

Commissioning the water project, yesterday, at Akim Akim Community, the District Governor, District 404A2 Nigeria, Lion Asiwaju Jide Bello, represented by the District Governor-Elect, Lion Charles Itu, commended the Akpabuyo Island Lions Club for attending to a critical area of need in the community.

Lion Bello said the project which is strategically located at Akim Akim, an area that has continued to suffer lack of portable drinking water, adding that the water project came at the right time for service to humanity.

In her remarks, the President of the Akpabuyo Island Lions Club, Lion Mbang Itu Olorunnisomo stated that the borehole project is built to serve the Leo District 404A2 Nigeria Accident and Emergency Centre and the larger Akim Akim Community.

The President charged the Leo District 404A2 - Nigeria to put the project in good use, noting that the rush for water at the accident and emergency centre highlights the importance of the project.

Also speaking, the President of the Leo District 404A2 - Nigeria, Leo Esther Esua, thanked the Akpabuyo Island Lions Club for complementing their efforts with the provision of a borehole to service the ongoing Accident and Emergency Centre.

She said the Accident and Emergency Centre, when completed, would serve as a lifesaving facility, since there is no Health Centre around the Akim Akim suburbs.

She expressed hope that similar collaboration between the two humanitarian bodies would continue in the Association's continuous commitment to the service of humanity.

She also conveyed the appreciation of the Village Head of Akim Akim Community, Chief Eyo Dominic, who left the event due to heavy downpour, for the humanitarian gesture, saying the project would now serve the over 3,000 persons in the community, who had hitherto suffered lack and relied on the neighbouring Adiabo community for water.

The Zone 4A Chairperson and Project Supervisor, Lion Father Eddy Mensah, it took the project team just a week to complete the 250-litre double-tanked borehole at a budget of 450,000 Naira only.

Highpoints of the event were commissioning and handing over of the water project to the president of Leo District 404A2 - Nigeria, Leo Esther Esua.
