By Abraham UKPA

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Prof. Florence Banku Obi, has solicited partnership with the Cross River State Police Command to intensify efforts towards effective security of the institution.

The Vice Chancellor made the appeal, recently, when she led the Management Team of the University on a courtesy call on the Commissioner of Police, Cross River State Command, CP Gyogon Augustine Grimah in his office.

Prof. Obi said the security partnership that already exists between the University and the State Police Command has been vibrant, fruitful, laudable and rewarding and would like to see it taken to a higher level.

She was of high praise about the leadership and men of the command who have over the years worked tirelessly in collaboration with the internal security unit of the institution to ensure peace and maintenance of order on campus.

While acknowledging the Command's huge responsibility to the state and its citizens, she enjoined the CP to do all within its reach to ensure that the bond is sustained and security is beefed up in the University community.

Responding, the Commissioner of Police, CP Gyogon Austin Grimah, thanked the management of the institution for deeming it necessary to visit the Command, describing the University as a veritable partner in ensuring that peace is maintained in not just the campus but society at large.

The CP who said his men were working round the clock to ensure safety of lives and property in Cross River, called on members of the public with valuable information on criminal activities and hideouts in the state not to hesitate to approach the Command.

The Vice Chancellor was accompanied in the visit by the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic, Prof. Angela Oyo-Ita, Deputy Vice Chancellor, Research, Linkages & Collaborations, Prof. Peter Okafor, Registrar, Mr Gabriel Egbe, Bursar, Mr Joseph Odum , Librarian, Prof. Aniebiet Ntui and the Chief Security Officer, Capt.
