raditional Rulers, Elders and Youths from Eastern and Western parts of Yala local government area of Cross River recently assembled to seek spiritual intervention over what they described as "Rapid disaster befalling Yala people and their land."

The people who gathered at Akpada in Itega Ekpudu arena under the subject "Yala Going Back to the Root Prayer," said they have become worried with the spate of recent ugly occurrences in their land and want to appeal to God and their ancestors to come to their aid.

Speaking at the prayer meeting, Barr. Joseph Ochunu stated that the "rapid calamities and untimely deaths" befalling Yala in recent times require urgent prayers and cleansing of the land to forestall future occurrence.

According to him, "the escalating rate of disasters in Yala land has caused grave hurts to families and loved ones," noting that "it is high time we go back to the Almighty God through our ancestors and our crowned chiefs."

Conveners of the gathering were prominent Yala sons and daughters, notably, Professor Ede Iji, Barrister Joe Agi (SAN), Barrister Anthony Iji, Mr. Godwin Obriku Agi, Mr.Lawrence Inaku Odey, and many others.

About 30 crowned Chiefs from the Eastern and Western Yala communities attended the event with members of their respective councils.
