2nd Anniversary: Ex-Lawmaker, Educationist Laud Governor Otu’s Scorecard

As Governor Bassey Otu marks his second year in office, commendations have poured in from notable Cross Riverians, including a former federal lawmaker and an academic, who have lauded his achievements across key sectors of the state.
The Federal Commissioner representing Cross River State at the National Population Commission, Hon. Alex Ukam Esq, described the Governor's tenure as a period of "remarkable progress" and "visionary leadership" that has repositioned the state on the path of sustainable development.
In a press release issued to commemorate the administration's second anniversary, Ukam stated:
"It has been two fruitful years of remarkable progress for the people of Cross River State, during which Governor Otu has proven to be a Godsend by changing the ugly leadership narrative and transforming the state through visionary governance."
He highlighted the road infrastructure sector as one of the Governor’s most notable achievements, noting that numerous roads have been constructed and rehabilitated across rural and urban areas, significantly boosting connectivity and economic growth
"This has indeed improved the quality of life for our people," he added.
Ukam,a former member of the House of Representatives for the Akamkpa/Biase Federal Constituency, Ukam praised the rural electrification initiatives of the Otu administration, noting that many homes and businesses have been empowered through extended electricity supply.
He also pointed out the consistency in street lighting projects, which have enhanced the safety and lifestyle of residents.
On security, Ukam expressed satisfaction with the improved security architecture of the state, citing effective measures that have curtailed kidnapping and criminal activities over the past two year
"Through effective policing and provision of patrol vehicles and other support to security agencies, the Governor has created an environment where citizens can live without fear," he stated.
He further applauded the administration’s strides in education, particularly the transformation of the College of Education to the University of Education and Entrepreneurship, Akamkpa, which he described as a significant milestone
"The Governor has stabilised tertiary education, eliminated frequent strikes, and improved access to quality education," Ukam noted.
On agriculture and food security, the APC chieftain emphasized that Governor Otu understands agriculture as the backbone of the economy.
He acknowledged the administration’s farmer-support programs and agricultural policies that have contributed to increased food production and rural development.
In a similar vein, Roslyn Edim, a lecturer at the University of Calabar, commended Governor Otu’s pragmatic and visionary leadership.
Speaking to our reporter, Edim noted that the administration has shown a strong commitment to reversing the negative trends it inherited across several sectors.
She rated the Governor’s performance highly in agricultural innovation, educational reform, infrastructure development, and healthcare delivery.
"Governor Otu has shown determination and sincerity of purpose. With continued momentum, the administration is poised to make even greater impact," she remarked.
