MIDC Opens New Chapter in Donor Coordination, Trains Desk Officers Across 18 LGAs in Cross River
The Cross River State Ministry of International Development Cooperation, MIDC, has taken a major step to strengthen donor project tracking with the training of newly appointed Donor-Desk Officers across the 18 Local Government Areas of the State.
The initiative is aimed at ensuring proper documentation and results-based reporting of projects executed in the 196 political wards by development partners under the people-oriented administration of Governor Bassey Otu.
Speaking at the flag-off, officials noted that many achievements recorded by donor partners across the State have been under reported hence the appointment and training of Donor Project Desk Officers which is part of MIDC’s new strategy to achieve effective coordination and independent monitoring of donor-assisted projects.
Declaring the workshop open in Calabar, the chairman of Calabar Municipal Council Apostle James Anam, represented by the Council Secretary, Comr. Iso Bassey Edim, said the move is geared towards enhancing effective monitoring of donor projects in every LGA.
He charged participants to take the assignment seriously, describing them as the eyes of MIDC in their various LGAs.
He pledged the Council’s support for the initiative, noting that it is for the overall benefit of the State and it's citizenry.
In his remarks, the Honourable Commissioner for MIDC, Dr. Hippolatus Ogar Lukpata, said the initiative is designed to provide first-hand, independent information for comparison with donor reports.
According to him, effective execution of the assignment by the Desk Officers will promote transparency, efficiency, and adherence to project specifications.
The training which is holding across the 3 Senatorial Districts of the state was well attended by the appointed officers from across the State who pledged to swing into action immediately to ensure that the impact of donor interventions under the People First agenda of Governor Otu is properly captured, measured, and communicated.
