ADC Inaugurates Campaign Council In Cross River, Vows To Rescue State

By Missang AKPET

The Cross River State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has inaugurated its campaign council ahead of the forthcoming elections in the state.

The council which was inaugurated at the party secretariat in Calabar has Hon. Ntufam Ekpo Okon, Coordinator,; Hon. Prince Henry Enyong, Director-General and Hon. Godwin Effa, State Chairman.

Others are Hon. Asuquo Ekpo, State/Campaign Secretary; Engr. Andrew Okwoche, Organizing Secretary; Madam Christabel Mfam Kassang, State Woman Leader and Comr. Anase Michael, State Youth Leader.

Inaugurating the council, the State Chairman of the ADC, Mr. Godwin Asam Effa, said the party is on the verge of making history, having given Cross River State a competent choice.

"We are at the verge of making history. The party has given Cross River State a competent choice. She is a mother, she has known competencies and she has the requisite experience to deliver our state from the squalor of mismanagement we are passing through," Effa said.

He urged supporters to go beyond party lines to say enough is enough, and to participate in voting and defending their votes to leave a legacy for their children.

Effa also noted that at the national level, the ADC has presented very capable, experienced and articulate candidates.

Also speaking, the National Coordinator of the Atiku/Amaechi Campaign Council, Ntufam Ekpo Okon, said the country needs committed persons who are ready to redeem it.

He criticized the removal of fuel subsidy by the current administration, saying it has worsened the cost of living without corresponding development.

"This government arrived and decided to withdraw subsidies on petroleum and we all have experienced the consequences in terms of cost of living. They promised they are going to save money from subsidy for development. But today, this government has borrowed more than any other government we have ever experienced in this country. Where is the money?" Okon queried.

He said the ADC will take the message to the people, explaining that the high cost of food items is a direct result of fuel subsidy removal, as the cost is passed to the consumer.

Okon explained the ADC's position on subsidy, stating that its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, is not proposing subsidy on imported fuel, but subsidy on local production.

He charged party members to go into the field to speak to the people and get them to understand the choice before them.
