The Umor Otutu Sociocultural Organization (UOSCO), Ugep, has commended Governor Bassey Otu, the Obol Lopon of Ugep and Paramount Ruler of Yakurr, HRM Obol Ofem Eteng Ubana, and the Obol Lopon of Idomi, HRH Obol Ofem Inah Edet for the swift and peaceful resolution of the recent crisis between the neighbouring communities of Ugep and Idomi, in Yakurr local government area of Cross River state.

The group equally commended the traditional institutions of both communities, all security agencies, community groups, and individuals whose prompt interventions and coordinated actions averted further escalation.

According to the group, their decisive leadership restored law and order and ensured that the historical bonds between Ugep and Idomi remain unbroken.

In a press statement signed by President of Umor Otutu Sociocultural Organization (UOSCO), Ugep Engr. Fabian Ibor Ebri, reads in part: "We express our deep relief at the return of normalcy and call for the preservation of the deep-rooted historical, cultural, and socio-economic ties between our communities.

Conflicts only serve to tear at the fabric of our shared heritage, while peace guarantees our collective progress.

"As normalcy returns, the Umor Otutu Sociocultural Organization strongly charges all parties—particularly youths and community leaders on both sides—to actively maintain the peace. Meaningful development cannot thrive in an atmosphere of rancour, suspicion, and hostility.

"We, therefore, urge both communities to continue to utilize the established traditional conflict resolution mechanisms to address any underlying grievances. Community members are advised to disregard provocative social media posts and rumours, remain law-abiding, and cooperate with law enforcement agencies to safeguard lives and property.

"Umor Otutu Sociocultural Organization remains firmly committed to fostering unity, mutual respect, and cultural pride between Ugep and Idomi and indeed across all Yakurr communities. We pray for healing, permanent peace, and the progress and prosperity of the entire Yakurr nation."
