A historic milestone was recorded on Wednesday as the Federal College of Education (FCE), Ididep, in Akwa Ibom State, held its maiden matriculation ceremony, formally admitting 583 pioneer students to mark the commencement of academic activities at the institution.

In his address, the Pioneer Provost, Dr. Edem Ntuk, described the moment as the fulfilment of a long-awaited dream. He recalled that the college was established by the Federal Government in May 2023 and presently runs six schools and 20 departments offering the National Certificate in Education (NCE).

He assured that the college would provide a conducive environment for learning and innovation to equip students with skills relevant to national development.
The Provost expressed appreciation to the Federal Ministry of Education, the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE), and TETFund for their support. He also acknowledged the role of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who approved the college’s establishment, and the Akwa Ibom State Government, which provided the land.
Special recognition was given to Senator Ita Solomon Enang, whom Dr. Ntuk described as the vision bearer and catalyst behind the college’s creation. Senator Enang, in his goodwill message, thanked President Bola Tinubu and former President Buhari for their combined efforts in actualizing the project, describing the institution as a legacy for future generations.
The Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ubong Umoh, who represented Governor Umo Eno, commended the initiative and assured continued state support. Other goodwill messages came from the Executive Chairman of Ibiono Ibom LGA, Rt. Hon. Asuakak Umoh, and the Paramount Ruler, HRM Edidem Ime Inyang Udousoro, who pledged cooperation from host communities.
