In a strong demonstration of commitment to community development, a prominent son of Obubra, Barr. John Ifeanyi Ebokpo, has flagged off the construction of the 0.5 km Ogerege Road at Mile 1, Obubra Urban in Obubra Local Government Area.

The project aims to ease the movement of farmers, improve access to markets and stimulate economic growth within the community.

Speaking at the event on Friday, Ebokpo said the initiative was motivated by the daily challenges farmers face in transporting their produce. He emphasized that rural access roads are critical to improving livelihoods, expanding local commerce and adding value to the lives of rural dwellers. According to him, the new road will create opportunities for increased trade, reduce transportation stress and strengthen community participation in the local economy.

Hon. Ovat Dickson Agbor, Member representing Obubra I in the Cross River State House of Assembly, praised Ebokpo’s dedication to the welfare of his people, describing the project as a timely intervention that will significantly boost economic activities. He said initiatives like this underscore the impact of responsive and people centered leadership.

Former Minority Leader of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Chief Alex Irek, also applauded the gesture, noting that it reflects the value of private sector driven development. He said the road will greatly improve the daily experiences of farmers and traders in Obubra.

Similarly, Chief Ernest Irek, former member of the House of Representatives, said the project demonstrates Ebokpo’s genuine concern for grassroots advancement. He urged other well meaning individuals to emulate such community focused initiatives.

Vice Chairman of Obubra Local Government, Hon. Leonard Ogwa, described the groundbreaking as a significant milestone for the council. He affirmed that the project will improve mobility, strengthen rural commerce and uplift the living standards of residents.

Community members who attended the event expressed deep appreciation to Ebokpo, describing the road project as long overdue and vital to the economic survival of the area.
