The Cross River State Police Command has appealed to the public to help trace the family of an eight year old girl recently rescued in Calabar and now in protective custody.
In a statement released on February 27, 2026, the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Sunday Eitokpah, said the child, identified as Magdalena Bassey Oku, was found in the Adiabo area of 8 Miles within the Ika Omini Division.
Magdalena is dark in complexion, speaks Efik and English fluently, and hails from Akwa Ibom State. She has no tribal marks, and preliminary findings indicate that both her parents are deceased.
Authorities revealed that the girl had been living in Adiabo, seeking shelter in market stalls and churches. She is currently safe and receiving care while police continue efforts to locate her relatives or legal guardians.
The Command urged members of the public with any information about her family to contact the Divisional Police Officer, the Police Public Relations Officer, or the nearest police station.
The Cross River State Police reiterated their commitment to protecting vulnerable persons and ensuring that Magdalena is safely reunited with her family.
