Cross River chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has screened Dr. Alex Egbona, representating of Abi/Yakurr federal constituency, and other 44 aspirants for both the State and National Assembly (NASS) ahead of the May 21 primaries.

The screening was conducted by a five-man panel led by Mr Fred Osim. Recall that Dr Egbona just defected to PDP last week.

Breakdown of the aspirants shows that 33 of them are for the State Assembly, three for senatorial, and nine for the House of Representatives seat.

Speaking on the party's preparedness for the 2027 elections, Joe Bisong, State Secretary of the PDP, asserted that the "disastrous" outing of the ruling APC have made things easier for them.

"We are very happy that we are competing with the APC because it has not done much for our country and Cross River.

"The expectations of Nigeria have dampened, and the PDP is the only political party that can guarantee our democracy and I can assure you that we have been tested and proven to be true and the best.

"We have also seen the activity of the APC from 2015 till now. The cry among Nigerians is massive, and they (Nigerians) will be left to decide their case during the elections," he stated.

When asked if the PDP has the funds to execute the 2027 elections considering the recent happenings in the party, Bisong said, "We have the funds to execute the elections.

"We will execute the elections with available funds and we have covenant with Nigerians.

"Nigerians want good government, not to chop down and dampen their tomorrow. Nigerians must not continue to give their tomorrow for today. They must give their today for tomorrow.

"So we are very confident that Nigerians will vote us. Of course, they know that we didn't stack money anywhere," he said.
