C'River Assembly Suspends Lawmaker Over Domestic Violence Allegations

The Cross River State House of Assembly has indefinitely suspended Hon Dickson Ovat Agbor, member representing Obubra 1 in the State House of Assembly.

Ovat was suspended following allegations of gross misconduct linked to repeated domestic‑violence accusations.

Lawmakers convened a special session this week after activist reports and public outcry over claim the lawmaker had assaulted his wife, prompting public rebuke citing conduct “unbecoming of a public officer,”.

The speaker’s office moved the suspension pending an internal investigation on the matter.

Agbor has so far not commented on the issue, while his wife Mrs. Grace Ovat has downplayed the incident calling it a matrimonial issue which has been settled between them

The Assembly says it will review the case under its rules and the state’s VAPP Act.
