The State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Cross River State, Barr. Venatius Ikem, has resigned his position as state party Chairman.
THE BEAGLE NEWS can authoritatively confirm the resignation after calls were put across to the former state chairman. Speaking on telephone, the former Chairman affirmed that the letter emanated from him and that his resignation as State Chairman of the PDP takes immediate effect.
Ikem who announced his resignation in a letter addressed to the party leadership stated that the decision was made after careful reflection on the current realities within the party.
Ikem noted, in his letter, that it has become increasingly difficult for him to reconcile his responsibilities as State Chairman with prevailing internal dynamics that continue to weaken the party's cohesion and ability to pursue a united course.
He described the situation in the party as a crisis of direction and leadership coherence, warning that if left unaddressed might risks undermining the sacrifices and aspirations of loyal members who have worked for the party's success.
"It is with a heavy heart and a deep sense of responsibility and commitment to the values I hold dear that I hereby resign my position as the State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Cross River State Chapter, with immediate effect," he stated.
Ikem, who have served the party for the past five years as party chairman, expressed profound appreciation to party leaders and supporters who stood by him throughout his tenure.
He noted that leadership often requires periods of reassessment and renewal adding that he believes a clearer vision and a new pathway are now necessary for himself and those who entrusted him with their confidence.
The resignation comes at a time when the Cross River State PDP governorship candidate, Sir Arthur Jarvis Archibong, and the state working committee are currently on tour of the central senatorial district, canvassing for votes ahead of the March 6 2026 Gubernatorial election.
