C/River Residents Commend Gov. Otu for Free Transport Scheme

Anthony EKPO BASSEY

Residents of Cross River State, have commended Governor Bassey Edet Otu for the free transport scheme he has rolled out for residents, tourists and visitors across the state, during the festive season

Speaking with our medium, a resident of Calabar Municipality, Victor Okon said that the free transport scheme was a huge relief to residents living in the city. “For us, I tell you, that it is a huge relief. You can imagine spending on transportation fares from the beginning of the year till the end. That’s a whole lot. It is for this reason, that I strongly commend the Governor for the free ride during this season.” Also, a trader at the popular Watt Market in Calabar, Uduak Isong said: “The free ride is coming at the right time. This is when we go to the market every day because we anticipate a lot of sales during this season. With the free transport scheme, one can save transportation fares to cater for other needs. For this one, I thank Gov. Otu.”

A resident at Isong Inyang in Akamkpa LGA, Etim Effiom, while commending Governor Bassey Otu, for the annual free transportation programme, appealed to the Governor, to make it free throughout the year and not only the during festive season. “Before any thing, let me thank the Governor for the free transportation programme he has afforded us in Cross River State. Let me use this medium to appeal to him to sustain it beyond the festive season. Let the poor people remember him for the free transportation programme. I beg him.” Etim, appealed.

In the same vein, Esther Etta, a resident of Ikom said that though she was yet to enjoy the free ride at Ikom, it should be extended beyond the yuletide season. “I am yet to enjoy the free ride. If it is actually true, it is a welcome development and we should appreciate the Governor for it. Here, at Ikom, the cost of living is quite high. Let the Governor consider extending the free transportation programme beyond the Christmas period.”

At Ogoja, Alice Uju, said that: “If the government is planning on such a scheme, it should be evenly distributed across all Local Government Areas of the state. I hear my people in Calabar are enjoying it but here at Ogoja, I am yet to see. May be, it will come my way before the festive season ends.”

Few days ago, the Cross River State Government had kicked off the annual free transportation programme to be enjoyed by residents and visitors in the state, during the yuletide season. The programme was flagged off by the Deputy Governor, Hon. Peter Odey.

According to Odey, “It is a season of sweetness, so we want the people of Cross River State to be part of this season of sweetness.”
