Cross River State Governor, Prince Bassey Edet Otu has re-echoed the importance of the ongoing Continuous Voters’ Registration (CVR) exercise, urging Nigerian youth to arm themselves with their voters’ card ahead of the next general elections.

The governor spoke during a grand reception organized by Cross River State Political Network (CRISPON) to celebrate his 66th birthday, yesterday in Calabar.

The Beaglenews reports that the colorful event attracted CRISPON members across the seven (7) Local Government Areas in Cross River Southern Senatorial District, the less privileged in society and the general public.

According Otu, who was visibly happy over the gesture, the Continuous Voters’ Registration exercise must be given all the attention it deserves because the country’s economic planning is largely dependent on numerical strength.

The governor, who was accompanied to the occasion by his Chief of Staff, Hon. Emmanuel Ironbar, Special Adviser on General Duties, Ekpenyoung Akiba among other aides, also used the forum to disclose that the State had concluded arrangement to roll out an intervention programme for the masses soon.

While appreciating CRISPON for always celebrating and supporting him, the governor said “I am very happy to be here today. I came earlier, but you were waiting for your members coming from Bakassi and Akpabuyo. Indeed, today is my birthday and I am so happy to celebrate it with all of you.

“CRISPON, you have been my partner right from day one till today. All I want to assure you is that you will never work alone. I wish to stay with you longer, but I have many more engagements to attend. I thank you from the bottom of my heart. This single gesture that you have shown shall surely be reciprocated.

“Our administration is doing all we can to ensure that our young people have the opportunities to grow. And for the first time in the history of this State, we are going to witness something unique. I believe this week we are going to announce some of our social safety net and this will capture almost every member of CRISPON.

“We are going to work together to make Cross River State great again. Oncemore, thank you so much for all your support. We shall need it again in the near future even as we have the Continuous Voters Registration exercise ongoing. We must never be left out. In some of those programmess we are trying to infuse, you must show your seriousness of purpose by showing your voter’s card. I know we are all responsible citizens and you have plans for the future, and we do know that all the economic planning of this country is based on numerical strength. Therefore, lets’ make the most of this opportunity to move our dear State and Nigeria forward.”

Earlier, in his welcome remark, the Director General of CRISPON, Dr. Prince Michael Abuo, eulogized the governor for his sterling leadership qualities.

He said the occasion was an expression of love to a selfless and exemplary leader, who often considers the masses interest first before personal gains.

Abuo, who is also the State Coordinator of AUDA-NEPAD, saluted the governor’s unrivalled developmental strides barely two years in office; calling for sustainability.
