ActionAid Insists FCT Results Sheet Tempered With, Says Polls Stopped by 2:30pm, No Result Uploaded Till Evening

The Director of ActionAid in Nigeria, Andrew Mamedu, has raised concerns over the conduct of the recent FCT Area Council elections, stating that many result sheets were tampered with during the exercise.

‎Mamedu said his organisation monitored the election and observed several irregularities, according to him, a good number of result sheets showed signs of alteration.

‎He said that some of the results uploaded to the electoral portal were not clear or visible, this, he noted, raised questions about transparency in the process.

‎The election was conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission over the weekend across the six Area Councils in the Federal Capital Territory.

‎At the end of the polls, the All Progressives Congress won in five Area Councils, these include AMAC, Bwari, Kwali, Kuje and Abaji, the Peoples Democratic Party secured victory in Gwagwalada Area Council.

‎Mamedu said observers noticed that in some polling units, voter turnout was very low, in one case, he said only a few people came out to vote and added that although voting ended in the afternoon, the upload of results through the BVAS system was delayed until much later in the day.

‎He expressed concern that such delays and irregularities could weaken public trust in the electoral process and stressed that citizens must demand better accountability from the electoral body.

‎“We saw a good number of result sheets tampered with. Polls closed by 2:30 pm but no BVAS upload of results sheets until late in the evening. Nigerians need to demand more from INEC," he said.
