26 Killed in Gunmen Attack in Plateau Community

No fewer than 26 persons have been killed following an attack by unidentified gunmen in Angwan Rukuba, Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The incident occurred around 8 pm on Sunday at a popular bar in the community where residents had gathered. Eyewitnesses said the assailants opened fire indiscriminately, causing panic and leaving several people dead, while others sustained injuries.

Sources said the injured victims were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment as security operatives responded to the situation.

In response, the Plateau State Government imposed a 48 hour curfew in Jos North Local Government Area to prevent a further breakdown of law and order.

The State Commissioner for Information, Joyce Lohya Ramnap, condemned the attack, describing it as a tragic and unprovoked assault on innocent residents.

She said the curfew took effect from midnight on March 29 and will remain in force until April 1.

Ramnap added that the government, in collaboration with security agencies, has begun efforts to apprehend those responsible for the attack. She urged residents to remain calm, stay indoors and cooperate with security personnel by providing useful information.

Security personnel under Operation Enduring Peace have since been deployed to the area. The operatives were said to have cordoned off major entry points into the community and launched a search operation to track down the attackers.
