2027: Grassroots Momentum Builds for Ekpenyong’s Re-Election

By Ekanem Asuquo

Support is steadily building across Cross River South as constituents rally behind Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong in support of his re election bid, with diaspora groups, community leaders and grassroots stakeholders leading the charge.

The growing political movement gained visibility over the weekend when over 2,000 supporters converged in Calabar South for a mega rally organised by the Nigeria Diaspora Business Network USA in partnership with Pillar of Equity.

Held at Government Primary School, Mayne Avenue, the event drew a wide range of attendees including party faithful, traditional leaders and residents, all expressing support for the All Progressives Congress and its key figures, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Bassey Edet Otu and Senator Ekpenyong.

Governor Otu, represented by Senator Ekpenyong, expressed appreciation to supporters, describing the turnout as a reflection of public confidence in the administration’s direction and commitment to continuity.

According to Ekpenyong, the support signals a belief in sustained progress and purposeful leadership. He said efforts are ongoing to ensure Cross River South continues to benefit from key legislative actions, infrastructure projects and economic opportunities.

He pointed to major projects including the Lagos Calabar Coastal Highway and several strategic road developments across the state as part of the government’s drive to improve connectivity and boost economic growth.

President of NDBN USA, Ekeng Henshaw, said the group’s endorsement followed a careful evaluation of leadership performance at both federal and state levels. He noted that the diaspora remains committed to supporting development through investment, technical expertise and international partnerships.

The rally also featured music, cultural displays and participation from women groups and persons with disabilities, underscoring strong grassroots engagement.

Across Cross River South, supporters say Ekpenyong has demonstrated effective representation through constituency projects and legislative contributions that have improved the lives of residents.

Community stakeholders and youth groups continue to mobilise support, expressing optimism that ongoing engagement will strengthen his chances at the polls.

Analysts observe that the increasing support reflects early political momentum in the region, with Ekpenyong emerging as a central figure in efforts to sustain development alongside Governor Otu’s administration.
