2027: Cross River Speaker Lauds Abang’s Consensus Emergence for Ikom-Boki Seat
The Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Elvert Ayambem, has commended Hon. Victor Abang following his emergence as the consensus candidate for the Ikom-Boki Federal Constituency ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Ayambem gave the commendation in Ikom when he received Abang, ahead of the All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Representatives primaries, which are expected to formally ratify the party’s unanimous decision.
He said the wide acceptance of Abang as consensus candidate reflects increasing unity and political maturity among stakeholders in the constituency.
The Speaker described Abang’s emergence as a product of his performance and representation in the Green Chamber, noting that his track record had earned him the confidence of the party.
“Your emergence is a testament to your impactful three years in the Green Chamber. The party has spoken. There is only one ticket for our federal constituency, and you merit it given your numerous intervention projects which have changed the narrative of our area,” he said.
Ayambem stressed that the consensus arrangement demonstrates the willingness of stakeholders to prioritise collective interest over personal ambition, adding that such unity would strengthen internal cohesion and improve the party’s electoral prospects.
He called on party members and supporters across Ikom-Boki to fully support the consensus candidate, saying unity remained key to sustaining the political gains of the area ahead of 2027.
The Speaker also assured that the State Assembly would continue to back initiatives aimed at promoting peace, inclusiveness and development across constituencies in Cross River State.
In his remarks, Hon. Victor Abang thanked the Speaker and stakeholders for the confidence reposed in him, promising to justify the mandate through effective and people-oriented representation if elected.
He said his aspiration would focus on grassroots engagement, youth empowerment and legislative interventions targeted at attracting development to the Ikom-Boki Federal Constituency.
The event drew political stakeholders, party leaders and supporters from across the constituency.
