UNICROSS Raises School Fees as Portal Opens for 2025/2026 Session, SUG Urges Students to Withhold Payment

The University of Cross River State (UNICROSS) has increased its school fees for the 2025/2026 academic session, following the opening of the institution’s payment portal.

Checks on the portal show that tuition has been adjusted to ₦167,760 for indigenous students and ₦193,246 for non-indigenous students. The development triggered reactions among students shortly after the portal went live.

In response, the Students’ Union Government (SUG) has directed students not to make any payment until discussions are concluded between the student leadership and the university management.

The directive was contained in a circular jointly signed by the SUG President, Comrade Ogar Favor, and Comrade Godwin Eteng. The union stated that the fees currently displayed on the portal were neither approved nor deliberated upon with the recognised student leadership.

According to the SUG, allowing students to pay unapproved charges without consultation violates due process and could place undue financial hardship on students. The union also appealed to students to remain calm and law-abiding while engagement with management continues.

The SUG further called on the university authorities to close the portal until resumption, noting that students are vacating campus and that keeping the portal open without consensus could heighten tension within the school community.

The Students’ Union reassured students that it is actively engaging the management through peaceful and transparent dialogue, with the aim of reaching a resolution that protects students’ welfare while considering the university’s administrative responsibilities.

Students have been advised to await official updates through SUG communication channels, as any payment made at this time is strictly at individual discretion and does not carry the union’s endorsement.
